Margaretta Papp Belayneh

(the above picture from June 2013 features Margaretta Papp-Belayneh with Rod Jackson and Garfield Dunlop)

Simcoe County Loses a Strong Accessibility Advocate

Mrs. Margaretta Papp-Belayneh is well known across Simcoe County as a strong advocate for people with disabilities.  Since the adoption of the Ontarians with Disabilities legislation in 2001, Margaretta has played a significant role in assisting communities and organizations across Simcoe County to embrace the inclusive nature of this provincial legislation.

Margaretta was a founding member of the Barrie Accessibility Advisory Committee, a long serving Chair of the Innisfil Accessibility Advisory Committee, and an active member of the Simcoe-Muskoka Accessibility Network.  She was a very active volunteer with a number of non-profit groups during this period also, and a frequent guest at our Annual General Meetings.

There are few volunteers that show the commitment and dedication that Margaretta demonstrated on an ongoing basis in our community.  Our community will have a big hole to fill with her recent passing away.

Margaretta passed away on March 3, 2018 in Barrie.  Her influence on our community’s development will continue to be felt for many years to come.

Thank you Margaretta – you will be missed.
